Rebekka Bakken
Rebekka Bakken grew up in a tiny Norwegian village not far from Oslo. Since she didn’t really consider it to be the navel of the world, she quickly set out into the wide world: first to New York, in 1994. Eight years later she finally returned to Europe, where among the metropolitan cities she discovered Vienna and chose to make it her home.
Ever since the release of her first solo album “The Art of How To Fall” she has been the talk of the town. With her three-octave vocal range the charismatic and sensual singer shifts back and forth in a relaxed and playful manner between pop, folk, r&b and jazz.
As a child Rebekka took violin lessons and taught herself to play the piano. She sang Norwegian folksongs and church songs up until her teenage years when she had a major stylistic shift, singing funk, rock and soul music with local bands.
“The Art of How to Fall” received the coveted JazzAward from Deutscher Phonoverband, which is considered the equivalent of of a Gold Record in the jazz industry.
